The paper contends that the significant divisions of Islam were brought about by battles for force and authority, and developed over an extensive stretch of time beginning in the eighth century after the passing of Prophet Muhammad. The major Islamic divisions include: Sunni, Shiite, Wahhabis, and Suffis.
